4 weeks before the party
- Choose a party theme.
- Create a guest list.
- Pick a party date and time.
- Order party supplies, decorations, favors, prizes, activities
and games.
And make sure that you order enough tableware for the adults
or unexpected guests that may also turn up.
3 weeks before the party
- Send the invitations. Try to get guests to RSVP by a particular
date so that you can get a better idea of how many guest will
attend.
- Consider the age of the children and plan games and activities
accordingly.
- Decide on activities and games to play and book any necessary
entertainment or accessories.
- (plan more games than you plan to use in case you run out
of activities before the party is over or they’re
not keen on all of them)
- Arrange extra help from friends and relatives for the day.
2 weeks before the party
- Make a Party activity schedule - decide on games, activities,
when to serve the food, present opening and socialising time.
- You can refer to our 2 Hour Party Plan for help.
- Plan the menu - be sure to include both sweet and savoury
snacks. Finger foods work best for small children.
1 week before your party:
- Order the cake from a bakery or make it yourself and freeze
it.
- Make any other accessories or foods that can be make ahead
of time.
2-3 days before the party
- Buy food for the party.
- Buy film and/or videotape.
- Check batteries for the camera and/or camcorder.
- Get an exact guest count. Call those who haven't responded.
- Arrange to have balloons filled with helium, pick them
up or get them delivered on the day of the party. It is
also fun to have each guest go home with a balloon.
1 day before your party
- Pick up the cake or remove from the freezer.
- Make sure you have candles and matches.
- Clean and child proof the party area.
- Decorate any indoor areas.
- Phone any guest who have not responded.
Party Day
- Finish decorating the cake, or pick up the cake from
the bakery.
- Decorate outdoor area.
- Prepare food and beverages.
- Set up tables and chairs.
- Pick up helium balloons.
- Check area is child proof.
- Take plenty of photos and video of your child and his/her
family and friends so they can remember the fun they had
for the rest of their life. Enjoy the Day!
Party Tips:
- Remember, they are excited little people and anything can
really happen, so be prepared.
- Always keep your sense of humour even when things aren’t
going exactly as you planned.
The most important thing is that the birthday child and his/her
friends are having fun, no-one will remember or even care if you
cut the cake half an hour later or you forgot to put out those
extra lollies.
